3 Tips to Getting Organized for the Holidays

With the holidays just around the corner, it’s important to get the household in order. The experts at Organized Living have three easy tips to getting holiday ready.

  1. Household purge.

As the holidays are approaching, it’s important to look at what we have and get rid of things we no longer use. Focus on three key areas of the home: kitchen, toy room and master bedroom. Follow our quick tips below on how to purge each of the spaces.

Kitchen:

Start by throwing away any expired food in the pantry and refrigerator. If there is non-perishable items that you know you won’t use, donate them to a local food bank. Having the extra storage space will make it easy for holiday food and prepping!

Toy Room:

First dispose of toys that are broken. Then have your kids contribute to the purging process by asking them to choose toys to donate. For kids struggling to let go, ask them to choose between two toys so the decision is less stressful. They will feel in control of what stays and goes!

Master Bedroom:

Use the three pile method: keep, trash and donate. Having three piles will keep you organized and keep the process moving faster. Go through every single item in your closet and place them into one of the three piles. All “keep” items can be placed back into the closet in an organized manner.

2. Holiday hosting.

Being the holiday host is a lot of work. Put less stress on yourself by making sure holiday dishes are clean and ready to go ahead of time. This will allow you to set the table the day before with the serving dishes and serveware so all you’ll have to worry about is preparing the food!

3.Guest room closet.

Don’t forget about your guests! The guest room closet can become an overflow storage area for things like suitcases, out of season clothes and other personal items. Clear out the clutter and give your guests a space for them to unpack. Don’t forget the hangers!

Holidays are one of the best times of the year because you get to spend time with family and friends. Getting organized ahead of time will make the holidays much more enjoyable!
